City Hall - before alteration (Second Empire style) and after (Beaux-Arts).
Completed 1883; altered 1913. City Hall facts: First building in Hoboken
constructed exclusively for use as a city hall. Top floor originally housed an
armory. Original Architect: Francis George Himpler. Construction cost: $60,320.
Site was formerly a market square, laid out in 1804; donated to Hoboken by Col.
Stevens' heirs.
