Hoboken Talks: John Cheney, master builder of parade floats, interviewed by Bob Foster

Join us at Hoboken Talks on Thursday, April 14 when John Cheney is interviewed by Museum Director Bob Foster.

Did you know that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade floats used to be built right here in Hoboken? John Cheney has been constructing major floats and the smaller clown cars and rocking animals for that parade and others for over 46 years. He is a master carpenter at the Parade Studio, and his skills extend to welding, sculpting and fiber glassing. John has also designed and built a number of push floats for the Coney Island Mermaid Parade.  When not building parade floats, he enjoys walking around Hoboken sketching on the streets, in parks, and along the waterfront. His ink – yes, not pencil, but INK –  sketches were featured in an Upper Gallery exhibit at the museum called, “Spontaneous Hoboken.”   For more info, click here
